SLBの先進技術に要求されるスペックは宇宙開発を超えることがあります。例えば石油や天然ガスが眠る地下は、地下7,500メートルにも達することがあり、その温度は200℃を超え、また気圧は2,300気圧以上にのぼることもあります。このような過酷な環境の中、先進のセンサーや電子部品、精密機器を組み込んだツールを確実に制御し、正確に分析していくことが求められています。日本にあるテクノロジーセンターではその品質を確保する重要な拠点の一つです。またオペレーション部門のフィールドエンジニアは、油田開発現場で掘削現場の責任者として、石油会社などから依頼された油層の計測や調査などの現場作業全体を指揮しています。

The technical requirements for SLB’s advanced technologies can be higher than those for space development. For example, oil and natural gas can be found as deep as 7,500 meters underground. Temperatures can exceed 200°C, and pressure can reach over 2,300 atmospheres. In such harsh environments, tools with advanced sensors, electronic parts, and precision instruments must be controlled reliably and analyzed accurately. The technology center in Japan is one of the key sites that ensures this quality. In operations, field engineers lead on-site work at oilfield projects.

They act as supervisors at drilling sites and manage measurements and surveys requested by oil and gas companies.
